I just love stumbling into a great conversation with people and learning they were homeschooled!! Such is the case with Peter Schriemer! I was planning to interview him about the new season of Hike & Seek, which I think you are going to LOVE. In the process of preparing for this interview, I learned Peter was homeschooled!! A homeschooler who followed his passion right into a successful career!

We talk about that transition and what it looks like, what his mom did to encourage his interests, and of course, we talk about Hike & Seek and some of the fun things they have planned for the new season. Peter Schriemer takes us on wildlife adventures into the natural world to learn how to hike in creation and seek our Creator.

Bio for Peter Schriemer

Peter Schriemer is a multi-award-winning filmmaker with over 20 prestigious industry awards. He is an avid nature enthusiast, dedicated wildlife educator, and conservationist. Peter currently serves as a writer and program host for Answers in Genesis, as well as the TV host for the popular nature show Hike and Seek, which streams exclusively on Answers TV.

As a wildlife educator, author, media producer, & television host, Peter brings the best of North America’s wildlife to children and families in accessible ways. Through multi-media programs and live presentations, Peter equips children with the knowledge and enthusiasm to safely explore the nearby natural world.

With a life devoted to nature education through his homeschool years and a degree in filmmaking, Peter has produced content for PBS, The National Wildlife Federation, Animal Planet, and Smithsonian Channel. 

Peter started his career as a media personality at age 17, creating, writing, and hosting “Beyond Your Doorstep,” a multi‐award‐winning children’s nature special that aired on PBS. He also developed an interactive website, beyondyourdoorstep.com, filled with project ideas, video clips, activities, and resource suggestions to help young explorers safely go on safaris in their own backyards and beyond.

He went on to collaborate with Smithsonian Channel HD as the creator, writer, and host of “Critter Quest!” – a high‐energy, fast‐paced, and activity‐based children’s show that goes in search of amazing critters in habitats that are accessible to families.

Peter was chosen as one of the “20 in their 20s” by Crain’s Detroit Business in 2008, and has become a multi‐award winning filmmaker, receiving more than twenty prestigious industry awards ‐ including three CINE Golden Eagles and fifteen Tellys for his work.

Recently, Peter created, wrote, co‐produced, and hosted a faith-based nature series called “The Nature of God”, which includes six half-hour episodes on DVD, school curriculum, family activity guides, and two picture books he authored. The series was released by Zondervan Publishing (a division of Harper Collins) and was filmed across the Great Lakes region and on the Hawaiian islands of Oahu and Maui.

As a conservationist and wildlife enthusiast, Peter has been a part of many projects studying and rescuing wildlife. He has been involved in the “Friends of Wildlife” program to rescue and rehabilitate baby mammals. Peter has studied diverse tropical wildlife in Costa Rica with biologists. He has participated in the Turtle Research Project at the E. S. George Reserve in Michigan. Recently, he has assisted in a salamander migration study in his hometown of Ann Arbor.

A dedicated wildlife educator, Peter teaches nature classes and gives presentations at festivals, bookstores, schools, churches, science camps, science centers, scout troops, and zoos.

Peter’s latest production is a TV special titled “Creatures of the Lagoon”, which premiered on Smithsonian Channel HD in the fall of 2012.
