Episode 13 – How to Use Art for Homeschool Enrichment with Tricia Hodges
If you feel that incorporating art into your homeschool is too messy and overwhelming, Tricia Hodges has the solution to your problem! Not only is art just plain fun, many of us find that incorporating kinesthetic movement and including more of the senses can actually help meet the needs of different types of learning styles.
If finding an art program that meets your needs is a dilemma, you’ll want to learn about Tricia’s secret weapon for incorporating art into your homeschool….Nana! As a mom of five homeschoolers (with three graduates so far) Tricia didn’t intend to create a popular homeschooling art program. A snowy day and a visit from Nana turned into a fabulously quick, easy, and interesting art program now known as You ARE an Artist.
Join us as Tricia discusses how finding subjects that all of your students can do together can be challenging, but art is one way to bring everyone together to create homeschooling memories that you will cherish. Additionally, Tricia explains why many of her subscribers have found that Nana’s art lessons entice their children to learn more, to retain it better, and to enjoy studying a range of topics from hymns to geography to Star Wars! Tune in to find out about the joy, the conversation, and the academic improvements (including improvements in history, science, and geography!) that can come from using You ARE an Artist in your homeschool.

Quotes from Tricia Hodges
We aim to educate the individual child. Each child learns differently. Each one of my five children has a different learning style so we surround them in the environment that they learn best in with the resources that they learn best with.
Homeschoolers always want to do something special around holidays. What better way than with art?
I think each of us can remember back to our own education and remember certain projects that we did…you still remember all the different pieces and parts that you learned just because of the special project. That’s what our mission is.
Our heart is for the homeschool mom and homeschool families to truly enjoy this educational journey and to remember it.
Trish: When kids are going to school they’re making projects and bringing them home to mom but we don’t get to see the joy in that project as it was made. Yes, I love the finished product, but I love to watch them making it. I love to watch the joy as they’re figuring things out and trying new ways of doing things. I love those “Aha!” moments.
Trish: As homeschoolers we can talk to our kids and have conversations with our kids around a topic. What better way to do that than while you’re drawing it?
